How would I ship my bike?

How would I ship my bike and how much would it cost?

I have an expensive full carbon fiber bike. I would like to ship it to where I am going but I dont know how or how much it would cost. It is less than 20lbs. However I am worried it will be damaged. How do I ship it? How much would it cost? and should I just sell it?

  1. get a bike box. they are pretty expensive but if you use it alot and get a good one that will protect your bike its worth the money.

not sure how much to ship it, i just remember it was cheaper when i did it because i went up 2 or 3 weeks before the event.

  2. Get yourself THULE's bike box.  Take off the pedals, the seat, loosen the handle bars, and remove the wheels.  Pack everything into the box.  Go to your closest DHL agent (office max), and have them ship it.  They are reasonable and fast.  UPS does not know how to pack a bike.

  3. Talk to UPS. They can box and ship just about anything for you.

  4. You can also go to your local bike store and get a shipping carton.  Most bike stores have a sideline business of packing bicycles being sold on eBay.  Thus, they save some of the cartons they receive bikes in.

You'll have to do a fair bit of disassembly to get it in the box.  Also, you'll want to get some foam or bubble wrap to protect the pieces and parts from rubbing and scratching during shipment.

UPS, DHL, FedEx, etc. will all be happy to ship your bike.  Cost depends on weight, dimensions of the carton, and distance.  Expect to spend over $50.00 to ship it across country.

    Hope this helps.

  5. take it to the ups store they will pack it and ship it they have a rate chart

  6. There are bike cases made specifically for this.  Just check online or a your local bike shop (if a small shop they probably won't carry).

If you are flying....  since I'm a disabled triathlete I travel with 2 racing chairs valued much higher than a bicycle.  I don't box them at all.  I've found less damage is done when the baggage handlers see what they have rather than just throwing around boxes.  Yes, I've suffered through minor scratches but I've never had anything major happen where I had to do any type of unusual work to make the chais race ready...

  7. get a hard plastic bike box

we have some in our website

    http://www.bikingthings.com/components.h...

then once it is packed ups or fed ex could do the shipping. it cost about $90. you could take the box with you on the plane but they will charge you $100 per trip, continental is charging $300 i have heard
