I bought wine in Italy on vacation and I want to send it home. Are there any restrictions I should know about?

  1. It is legal in Italy to ship wine; but I believe USPS doesn't allow to mail liquid products, especially alcoholic beverages, via the postal system.

Your best best is to pack them on your luggage because you will not be able to carry on board the cabin

Link to USPS.com for more info on shipping

  2. My suggestion is to pack them in wooden crates with straw inside. Heavy bur safe...You will have to pay custom duties on the wine that exceed the limits...also be aware that some wines change theyr taste after a trip like that (I lived in Canada for a while, and for some mysterious reasons, some of the bottles I brought with me changed taste drastically after the plane trip!)

  3. The Italian post has special boxes created for sending a bottle of wine and they are usually on display so you can just point to it. If not i'm sure they will understand if you show them the bottle of wine. You will have to fill out a pleathera of customs forms though...and you can only send a litre of alcohol. But if you are ready for that then just walk into the nearest post office - they aren't that hard to find, they are brightly lit and painted azzure blue and bright yellow...
