How do I show respect to a Muslim during Ramadan?

My best friend is Muslim, and I don't understand her religion very well. Are there things that I shouldn't do around her? I know that she will be fasting. What else goes along with this holiday?

  1. ok im muslim and im not very religious and stuff. what you should do is be normal around her xD  Don't be like "MMMMMMM THIS CAKE ISSS SOOOOO GOOOD!!! " if your gonna eat just eat it normally xD

  2. nothing....just dont eat next to her it will kinda be rude...its up to u though....

  3. Buy her a package of baklava (or, make a tray of it!) and tell her that you appreciate her religion and you are happy to be her friend.

  4. first of all please dont eat or drink infront of her, and u can say happy ramadan to her, and after sunset u can bring her something to eat

  5. Its nice of u to think abt yr best friend.

    Ok, for a start, don't eat or drink in front of her (its the most significant sign of respect).

    Btw, Ramadan is not a holiday.

  6. Don't offer food or drinks at all....do not smoke either. Try to be as quiet and non-confrontational as possible.

  7. you know what.....since u really want to respect her, your friendship, n our religion. there r a couple ov things:

    1. Do Not eat, drink or smoke in front of her;

    2. Abstain from cursing n letting her curse;

    3. Calm her down when she gets furious (as it breaks her fast);

    As it is just 'bout respectin.....that is all.....u don't need to make a super meal too respect her n her practices....as a friend it'll b more than enough to do the things mentioned above

  8. I agree with the previous posters.  Don't offer any food.  If you are particularly interested or if you are close to her, ask her to share some of her family's traditions.  You could also ask about prayers, rituals, etc. that go along with Ramadan.

    It's so nice to see a question like this.  More tolerance!

  9. As a friend to your Muslim friend, you should NOT:

    1. eat or drink deliberately in front of her.

    2. smoke in front of her.

    3. offer food while she is fasting

    4. talk about movies, music, fashion etc

    5. talk about generally known "bad stuff"

    6. taunt her.

    7. curse or use bad words.

  10. Tip from personal experience:

    Do not taunt her.

  11. honestly you need not do anything but if you want just dont tempt her with things. not just food water and cigarette smoke, but also like dont say ooo look at that cute boy, or stuff like that.

  12. fasting.. don't tempt her with food, lol. also at the end of Ramadan they have a big feast, nom nom nom.

    EDIT: to the person above me, Baklava is amazing, here's a recipe http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Baklava/Det...

  13. Muslims are unmoved by anything other then conversion and submission to  the supremacy Ideology of Islam.Stop bowing and scraping.

  14. they might be more nice this month for the ramadan month and then be different the next month thats how i see it every year they become nie in ramadan then when its other there back to there old ways

  15. you dont eat in front of them and when the sun goes down you fix them a BIG meal and im sure they will love you even more for that....

  16. Don't tempt her with food. Don't eat around her. If you guys hang out a lot, try to avoid t.v. and if you do watch it, let her control the remote. and if she flips to anything innappropriate, do not let her watch it! Don't talk about innapropriate things, or say bad words. at night, from eight to nine, don't disrupt her. She'll be breaking her fast. and ask her to help you understand the religion.

  17. There is nothing special to be done.

  18. Salam for you Respecting your muslim friends during ramadan are:

    1)do not show in front of them foods and drinks which will be eaten and drunk by yourself.You must seem you are fasting too

    2)do not talk bad doings of others (ghibah) and avoid talking of gossip

    3)remember them the time for praying if you know the exact time

    4)when you will drink ar eating something you must leave them for amoment so they do not know what you are doing

    5)remember them when the time for breaking fast is approaching

    6)avoid talking about delicious foods and drinks in front of them when the time for breaking fast is till far enough
