How do I shrink a 95 cotton 5 spandex shirt?

I got the shirt as a gift and it is too big, I have tried putting it in the dryer and puting it in hot water.. but nothing has changed.. I dont want to have to sew it to take it in and chance ruining it... please help me =[

if u cant do it the first two times idk what will work. this question helped me tho b c i too got a 95%cotton/5%spandex shirt and was wondering if it would shrink or not with one wash. i decided to return it b c i dont want to have to wash/dry my shirt two or more times in order to wear it b c by the time it fits it also would look worn...Thanks GUEST 5833
