ok, I have some pants, and I want them to be like a size or two smaller, they're 99% cotton and 1% spandex.

If I wash it in hot water and then dry it for a while will that work? how many times should I wash them in hot water, and how long should I dry them?

  1. Go for it! Wash them in hot water and dry them until they are dry. What have you got to lose? They don't fit you right now anyway. They will shrink only once though if they are going to shrink at all.

  2. hot water in the wash and high heat in the dryer will case things to shrink but cotton is a little different it will shrink some but the main problem is the stitching.  that will shrink more because it is not cotton therefore you will get puckering.  and it is not good for the fabric.  it will make the fibers break down faster and your clothing will not last as long or look as good as long.  best thing?? go by a new pair of pants the right size

  3. They "may and may not" shrink washing them in the hot water. Because they have spandex in them they should not go in the dryer at any temperature. It will kill the elasticity of the spandex.

Shrinkage of 100 percent cotton is 1 to 2 percent. Not a whole size and definitely not two sizes.

Gain the weight needed to fill out the pants is easier than shrinking the pants to fit.
