It's very obvious that after a little work out, I sweat a lot and I have to catch a breath a lot.

My genes and body weren't meant for athleticism because all of my family were the kind of people who stayed at home, studied or played music for hours.

My grandma danced but that's it. Absolutely no athletic history in my family.

However, I want to change that as I love many, many sports and I love working out.

I play basketball for an hour 5 days a week and since the basket is out in the front yard, the ball can often wander for blocks if I miss so I run constantly.

Yet my stamina is very weak. When I was at my swimming training a couple of months ago, I couldn't last c**p. I came up like 2nd place in this long race I had to do only because I almost fainted on the last 50 meters.

How do Increase my stamina by a lot? I've tried protein drinks.

  1. just like everything else, you need to practice. stamina is doing something relatively easy, not requiring too much effort over long periods of time. if you're looking at racing then you want to go faster for specific distances. if you just want to increase your distance, then go to your limit. push hard but don't kill yourself. like fainting is too much push, brink of fainting good. then do it over and over slowly your distance will increase. but do it at an easy pace for distance.

for speed if you want to do a long race but fast. practice doing the length of the race, first by starting as easily as possible, if you can't make the distance you'll have to increase your distance by doing something like the first part. if you can do the distance at a really easy pace, then slowly increase your pace everytime. aim to complete the race as fast as you can. completing the race is important if you don't make it to the end you need to pace yourself more. your body will adjust to do what you make it do. if you do this you'll be able to complete the race faster and faster as your body gets better and you keep pushing the new limits it reaches.

there's other stuff like supplements you can take, eating the right and stuff, and certainly they help, but i think the biggest difference you'll get is by conditioning your body by practicing. i think you will improve faster than you would expect.

  2. RUN LIKE CRAZY!!!!

  3. Just keep on exercising for long periods of time - practice makes perfect!

But if you are really serious about increasing stamina then live and train in the mountains for a few months, because there is less oxygen in high areas. This will increase your heart and lung size because it will be more difficult to breath. So when you get back onto low ground you will be almost super charged because of the sudden rush of oxygen.

But i would mostly recomend training hard! :]

  4. well i played soccer awhile so stamina is needed alot, i think my stamina solution might apply to your problem. Well i might say work out,and remember the quote"if it hurts it works" though when i say that don't kill yourself daily.I recommend taking breaks in between workouts .  trying balancing your diets such as if your working on stamina, don't destroy it right after by eating junk food or drinking drinks with to many carbs will mess up your system. Also i recommend  probably drinking  water and eating before preparing to exercise. Then a little bit of water before you exercise, then   a few water breaks in between.

  5. I don't think protein drinks are the answer, or energy drinks, etc.

If you are eating a well balanced diet full of veggies/fruits, beans, whole grains and some nuts and seeds, you should be getting the nutrition your body needs.  You might want to keep a food diary for a week or two and see what you are really eating.

Additionally, it is possible that you may be low in iron.  A simple blood test by a physician could determine this.  However, DO NOT take iron supplements unless they are prescribed by a doctor.  Excess iron is harmful.

Good luck and just keep at it.  I bet you'll soon be going the distance.
