How do I single out my SSID network if there are other close networks with the same SSID name? (linksys)?

I just reset my router so everything should be at original settings. I had configured my router with a unique SSID and password only recently. Everything was fine until the SSID stopped broadcasting. In any case, instead of just messing with everything, I reset. It seems now the original SSID is broadcasting as Linksys. However, for some reason I can't get onto the network to change the settings. I'm going to the IP and being asked for a name and password. It should be the default password (admin). I try it repeatedly and can't get on. I'm assuming that its because i might not be on my network but someone else's who has a different password.

SO - HOW DO I JUST GET ON MINE!????? TO CHANGE THE SETTINGS!? Model: wrt54gc (cisco)

stop been lazy and DISABLE wireless LAN and plug in the wire to change the setting thru wired network first.

this will make sure  you are on your own network not your neighbor's network.

and change your SSID to something more meaningful instead of linksys, sisco or things that everyone is using.

When you reset the newer model Linksys routers they will only let you log into the management side of it if you are directly connected by hardwired. This will also make sure you are on the right network until you configure everything the way you want it.

hmm, that sucks.  use an ethernet cable and then log in to that IP.  then configure the SSID to be different than 'linksys.'
