Question:

How do I sink to the bottom of the pool?

I am a female that has had a few kids. I did not know how to swim before kids. After I had them, I found I can float very easily.

Now, I notice that other people can go to the bottom of the pool when they want to swim along the floor of it. I cannot do that. I feel like my butt (yes ... ok) .. keeps pulling me to the surface. No, I am not overweight.

  1. When you're in the water, exhale, and you will sink to the bottom.

I find that, for myself, I can dolphin kick (or "mermaid swim"), and that will keep me at the bottom of the pool. You can also do pull-outs to get to the bottom of the pool and swim along it. Though it requires more work, you can you hold your breath longer.

  2. get rid of all the air from ur lungs and u sink. breathe out.

  3. After you dive underwater exhale the air out of your lungs, this will greatly reduce your buoyancy.

You also need to maintain a slightly pulling downward motion in your strokes.

  4. swim like you are diving underwater. angle downward like this:                    \

separate your arms and keep swimming. feel for the floow of he pool and move your body like this   -----------   and swim that way.

kind of hard to explain. hope i helped

  5. You will have to exert yourself by swimming breast-stroke style moving downwards to the bottom. A downward thrust is necessary with slow graceful strokes keeping your body straight in line and not curled up Do not bend your knees towards your stomach. There will be a vertical bar in the pool going downwards. Use the same as a temp support to manoeuvre downwards.

  6. Everyone flots to the top, it's physics. It's technique you need to work on. Please note that the higher % of fat vs muscle will affect your ability to float somewhat, muscle being denser than fat.

  7. breathe out when you go under the water. either through your nose or mouth. think about it, with less air inside of you, the better you will sink.also swim down not across. try swimming on an angle. also, push off the edge of the pool. it works!!! hope this helped! good luck!
