Question:

How do I slap my shyness out of existance?

I am too shy. Just this week I was too shy to bring my laptop into the public library and use the wireless internet.

My shyness hinders my willingness to initiate conversation with girls face to face.

I guess that isn't the kind of confession a shy person would make to a bunch of strangers but you know how the internet is, it feels like your talking to computers even though you aren't.

Really I have been getting better, I used to be worse. How can I be sure to totally slap this habit of shyness?

I know that it is definitely easier said than done, but start out small and work your way up to doing things that make you uncomfortable.  I understand that your fear of taking your laptop to the public library stems from self consciousness and fear of unfamiliar situations, but you can not grow without pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.  Most importantly, you should have confidence in yourself and in the many things you have to offer the world!


  2. When I was small I attended 5 kindergartens and refused to attend school. I was shy had never been with kids my age. I was brought up by maidservants and my only companion was my mother. I was crying like a little baby all the time, was bullied and my things stolen. Till I went to private school co-ed with boys and girls mixed. The all girls school was horrid and was not my cup of tea. In Sri Inai the kids were polite and similarly well off. Well, I was able to attend school was 2nd in class and was able to be a public speaker years later when I was around 16. Hey just be yourself, look clean and well kept, organised and polite. Also read dale carnegie how to win friends and influence people. For internal integrity read Covey's 7 habits of effective people.Don't worry kid you'll be alright.Different girls like different guys,you may not be a jock or playboy, but a decent young man, attractive to decent young girls yeah?

  3. It is late in the game for you to work on it but, for starters, take a friend with you in the library and learn it with him/her.  Then you will ease your fear when alone because you won't be so lost.

    You have to attack life where you fear it.  Just tell yourself no one is looking and do the darn thing.  

  4. well i was like that too. what i did really was play alot of social online games like maplestory or other big community games. it helped me out and i talk to any one. being social online is a nice way to help you out in life. i became a very well known guy and people talk to me alot. no one hates me or trys to fight me. just be a nice guy and talk. practice helps out. plus being with friends helps you be more social with new people then while being by your self

  5. Do something that you find challenging, like public speaking.

    A friend of mine joined Toastmasters to overcome his shyness and it worked wonders.

  6. I can get like that sometimes but I think it's a form of depression in my case. I can relate to your laptop situation..I'd be thinking although knowing it's illogical..that everyone would be watching me, i wouldn't get a seat and would look a dork or I would do something stupid and people would think I was an ***.

    The reality would be that no-one would be looking as they would be busy with what their doing. I have seen a counsellor and she said something useful. Think of the worst thing that would happen and how bad would that be. So if i tripped up and fell in the library I may break my lap-top, hurt myself a little and some people who I don't know

    might laugh.From a shyness point of view strangers who I won't see again laughing isn't really that bad..In a few minutes they would be back doing what ever they were there for.

    Or you could grab the bull by the horns and join a local drama or writers group..I have heard of many people who have done this and been really successful at building up their confidence

    remember most people have suffered shyness in their lives but are better at hiding it than others
