  1. The first, and best collection of information and external links is wikipedia:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubik%27s_R...

In addition to beginners tutorials, it does list the middle-edge-3x3:

    As well as other methods:

  2. The person who's answered before me obviously has done his research. But I'd like to add to this =]

There're various methods to solving a 4x4, but 4 mainstream solutions.

Reduction (more commonly known as redux) is the most commonly used method. It involves solving for all the edges of the cube, pairing up edge pieces, and solving the rest of this cube like a 3x3. Redux is MOSTLY intuitive, and can be learned and adapted very quickly. It's only disadvantage is parity. Parity is encountered in OLL or PLL; OLL parity has an extra edge flipped, and PLL parity has 2 edges switched.

K4 (Kirjava-4, developed by Thom Barthlow [SP?]) is a relatively new method. It almost follows in a Fridrich style fashion w/ a few differences. There're quite a bit of steps for this method, but most of them solve a few parts of the cube at a time.

The cage method is, in a sense, an opposite of redux. I've not much research nor knowledge in this method, but I've seen that the edges are first paired, then oriented and permuted. Afterwards centers are solved.

The Stadler method is a variant of the Roux method, made especially for the 4x4. I've not done much research in this area either.

Links for tutorials for each method below, and if you've any questions please do not hesitate to contact me =]

  3. Go to:

    4) Or you can go on youtube.com and look up some more videos to help you solve the cube.

    Hope this helps!!!

    Good Luck!!
