How do I solve a Ford probe overdrive problem?

My 2003 sport trac over drive button does not work. I can sometimes put into pard and the overdrive off light comes on and usually the only way to get it to go off is to turn off engine and then restart it. Sometimes I can get it to go off if I throw it back into park hard.  

Is this related to a sellonoid in the trans or what does anyone think
