Question:

How do I sound-proof my room?

I have a basement that I want to turn into a practice room/recording studio. It has concrete walls and is 8 feet wide, 13 feet long and 7 feet high.

My goal is to eliminate the echo and to make it to where the rest of the house will not be disturbed when I am practicing, so I will need sound proofing of the walls AND door.

I would like to keep it as cheap as possible, and I don't care how ugly it looks, I just want it to work!

  1. Well, it may not be cheap but try plugging "egg crate foam" into your web browser. You may want to be going cheap but balance that with safety as well. Commercially made foams may be more fire-retardant and expel less VOCs than some "cheap solution."

    Good luck.

  2. you could use egg boxes/cartons. My ex bf used to play drums and he had them in places in his basement

  3. um, you answered your own question.  you will need sound proofing material in the ceiling, walls, and a sound proof door.
