Believe it or not you would be so shocked about my internet speed. It runs only 10kb/ second and I pay about P1000 (near $18). What could be wrong? or what should I do? and my computer memory is only 8 gig. Did my memory size effect my internet speed? It takes me 3 days to download a simple game!!! Help me...

  1. the RAm or hard disc memory is absolutely not an issue here. You should buy a new modem like aztech or dlink..Internet connection is depends on the modem..a better modem gives u a faster internet connection.

  2. To speed up your computer and free up space and memory for free:

Go to the Start Menu> Run

    Type in "appwiz.cpl"

    Uninstall whatever you don't need.

Next, go to Start> Run and type in "msconfig".

Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck everything you don't want to startup. If you want, you can uncheck everything, and your anti-virus will still restart itself when you log on.

Now go to My Computer> Hard Drive> Documents and Settings> [USER NAME]> Local Settings> and delete everything inside the Temp Folder. (This is a hidden folder so you will need to have "show hidden files and folders" checked in Folder Options) All the files in this folder are just temporary files that your Internet stored for certain websites.

Next, you should install CCleaner, it will get rid of alot of temporary files on your computer. It also has a registry repair system, which is easily the best free one available on the Internet:

    http://www.ccleaner.com/download

Another option is to try defragmenting your computer.

Go to the Start Menu and go to All Programs

Go to Accessories and System Tools.

Choose Disk Defragmenter and when it loads click defragment.

Next, go to Device Manger (Start> RightClick My Computer> Properties> Hardware Tab> Device Manager) and expand all listings. Now rightclick and update all drivers.

Another thing I would say is to compress your files if you already haven't.

Open My Computer and right click on your hard drive

Check the Compress Drive button and let it do it's thing.

Finally, make sure your Hard Drive doesn't have any bad sectors. Go to My Computer> Right Click Hard Drive> Properties> Tools Tab> Check Now> Check both boxes and Start. It will ask you to reboot, so reboot. This will clear out any bad sectors on your Hard Drive.

These are short-term solutions however. the easiest way is to just upgrade the RAM on your system, but at least the ways above are free.

    Good Luck =]

  3. Memory is 8GB?  Do you mean RAM? Cause that is really HIGH!  That is no problem.

If you mean Hard Drive Space then that could be a problem.

What type of connection do you have?

  4. Your computer specs affect your internet speed. Upgrade your pc, like 1gb of ram or more, at least 1.8GHz processor speed, you might need additional hard disk space.

  5. How fast should it be running.  You pay for it.  What does it say on da contract?  10kb/sec is the pits!  How do you connect to the internet - via the telephone line?  Is it supposed to be broadband or simple dial-up.  We need to know these things.  You hard drive - 8Gb - is small, but that shouldn't matter.

  6. get a speed accelerator

  7. Memory (RAM) will not have effect on internet speed. You need to see on what kind of agreement you sign with your ISP (Internet Service Provider). If the speed is lower from whatever stated there, you need to contact them to settle this problem

  8. The speed of your connection is regulated by your ISP. 10kb is a common allowance for a cheap wireless connection from the phone company. If you live in a rural area, that might be all that is available in your area. Larger cities usually have better connections available.

The faster connections on wireless, cable or sattelite cost more than $18 but are usually at least 100kb/second. I pay $40/month for 100kb, which is 100 times faster than what you have. It still fluctuates some depending on time of day and traffic load from other people who share my connection.

Are you sure you have 8gig of memory? That is an exceptionally high amount. Memory doesn't affect your connection, but is affected by what you have open on your computer all at the same time. For example, you could open a lot more browser windows on a computer with 8gig of memory than one with 1 or 2, which is more common.

Usually, you don't need that much memory unless you work on very large images in a graphics program, or run a gaming system, etc.

If you are having a problem with slow downloads, you might get a program like Gozilla, that allows the download to resume if you lose your connection in the middle of the download, or have to reboot for some reason.

When downloading a program, if there are multiple mirrors to choose from, look for the mirror located closest to you, and it will probably be a little faster for you. Also try an alternate mirror that isn't the first choice given, as more people will choose the first option given, so it will be slower.

When downloading, close other programs running on your computer until the download completes, and it will download faster.

Your modem also affects download speeds. If your modem can't handle a faster connection, it won't help to get one. If you have an older modem, you might consider upgrading to a newer model.

  9. I got a program called

    Auslogic Boost Speed

it was a trial, and it gave you the option to optimize your internet speed, if you have Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Netscape
