I can't remember what it's called but whenever watching a beautiful dance and I see the dancer spinning on one foot while the other leg is bent and goes out a bit..?

I don't really know how to describe it but I really want to learn how to do it! Especially as I am going to be starting A level Dance in September and want to use it in my choreography!!!

So can anyone tell me what it's called and how I learn how to do it? Pretty please. (:

  2. I think you're talking about Fuete turns.  It's where the dancer starts with a normal piroette, and brings her leg to a la seconde, while doing a little ronde de jambe as she turns.  Its kind of difficult to explain, and is best learned in person.

If you're starting Level A dance, you probably want to stick with the basics at this point...learning the fuete will come in time.  Its most important to get started with understanding basic technique, body alignment, and turnout.

    Good luck!

  3. Practice! =)

  4. You are referring to a fouette.  Those come later on in ballet training...you will first simply be doing pirouettes until you are comfortable with turning.

A pirouette is simply turning on one leg while the other is in passe (or "bent" with the toe touching the knee).

In a fouette, you start out with a pirouette, and as you come around, the leg in passe straightens in front of you (devant), and as it straightens, come off of releve or pointe (go onto flat).  Then, when you whip the straight leg to a la seconde (side), rise back onto releve or pointe, return to passe (with the working leg), and keep going!

The only correct and safe way to do it is to take ballet classes.  Simply experience with turnout, pirouettes, and ballet in general will help you really master fouettes.  If you just want to do it for fun, sure!  Just be careful, and watch closely in videos!

    Good luck!
