How do I start Jumping Motocross Bikes?

I was wondering how I should start jumping my KTM 250SX.

I'm 13 and I have been riding since 1st Dec 2007 So I don't know very much.

I am 5'2 and 105lbs.

Should I make my front forks very soft?

I tried a jump today, It was compact dirt about 1.5ft high and I was in powerband on 2nd gear. I got about 1 foot of air and i landed on the front wheel and it through my body on the bar pad, i didn't fall of though. I was not satisfied.

How do I jump well?

  1. ok      250sx    very nice

    what year?

    anyway      hmm

forks    do not  adjust yourself    since you  are  not experienced enough   but  compression and rebound is gonna  come basically  down to  weight

so  idk  about your weight  im  187 pounds

if you were in the powerband    in 2nd  you would have  went  like  10 + feet   on a 250      well depending on the jump you have   that would also effect your   jumping  lol

if your coming in to nose  heavy   you  panic rev( or   twist your throttle and lean back a bit)

that will bring your back end down

as for  if your  coming in   on your back wheel    either push hard on the bars  (wont effect the bike becuase your so little)

or   pull the clutch  and   hit  the back brake till you level out

other than that  just practice  have fun

    and  be careful

  2. Dude, if you were 2nd gear pin you would of got a lot more air.

Start small like your doing and gradually learn how to lean, where to put weight and use the compression of of your forks on the up ramp to assist jump.

Alough you might want to back throttle off when you jump, DONT as this will result in a massive nose dive. Consitant throttle throughout up ramp, but saying that if you keep it pinned all the way trhough jump, this willn result in endoing the bike (like the start of a backflip, thats later on lol)

As you start small you will start to get a fell of howmuch throttle, how much to lean foward etc in time, and of course it all depends on the up and down ramp.

Then when you start getting consitant air you need to learn how to control it. This again is controlled with throttle and rear brake. If you start to nose dive gas it to bring the front up, if you start to flip it use the rear brake(and clutch if nesecarry) to bring the front down.

Its all about practcise and getting the confidnce and skill, no one can tell ya how to jump, just comes with practise.

And ill say this for your mum "BE CAREFUL!!!!" lol

  4. You must have been going slow or something because I could jump that easily in second gear on my kx 100

  5. yeaaa answer that used to be #2 is retarted, u can take many jumps in 2nd depending on ur bike, if you arent getting enough air, hight and length, then seat bounce.

seat bouncing is pretty much sitting in an attacking riding position, head above bars, and everything, right when you get to the top of the jump stand up, this causes the back spring to release making ur bike go higher and further.

dude thats a big *** bike lol u should be able to clear whatever you want its just a matter of hitting it hard enough

  6. Dude get in a higher gear first of all, you should never hit any jump in second. Get in either 3rd or 4th depending on the jump and pretty much just gun it and let the sky take you away.

Also, that bike is to big for you, your probably not able to control it as well as someone bigger than you could. I'm 14 and still on a KX 85.
