I want to start a club in my school for fundraising towards ending world hunger or improving education and I was wondering what I should do to get started. Do I have to be a chapter of an organization? If so, which one?

  1. You might want to look into Amnesty International or Oxfam. Check out their websites and there are student/youth sections. They have info there on how to set up a school group and there are lots of helpful documents to get your started. They may even send you a "getting started" package.

If you're specifically interested in ending hunger, either of these organizations would work. Another to look at is Make Poverty History. They're very good and focus solely on poverty and hunger, whereas AI and Oxfam focus more on human rights in general. (Including poverty/hunger, but not JUST poverty/hunger.)

Before you can start a club, you will have to get a teacher who is willing to help you. All schools require this. Go around to your teachers and ask them if they're willing to be your teacher representative. They can be a great resource as well! My teacher reps always had ideas that we never thought of just because of their life experience. If you can't find anyone willing to help (you probably won't have any problem, but just in case), then talk to your counsellor. He/she can probably recommend a teacher who'd be interested. But, teachers are often required to help with a school club so it shouldn't be too hard to find someone.

    Good luck!
