How do I start babysitting?~?

Question

My dream is to become an professional elementary school teacher. I would want to start this experience by either babysitting or volunteering in daycare/preschool. But it's hard to find babysitting jobs around here..where can it be easier to find babysitting jobs?? I live in NEW YORK by the way...

Aw that's a great thing you want a head start experiance! Well im a full time babysitter and I started off by taking a few classes at my nearest YMCA. I took things like first-aid, CPR,etc. Second thing I did was make up flyers to distribute/post all over town bulletin boards and especially my mother and father's friends who have kids of their own! My flyers were stated with the following info:

Hi my name is lena. Im a thirteen year old girl who loves children. I started off by taking CPR/First-aid classes so that I would be sure to be the best and caring babysitter. Please give me a call for any questions you have about watching your child/children. I charge depending on the number of children you have!



The best advice I can give you about getting the message out there is targeting the parents at school but also your parents friends! Half of my clients are my mothers friends who have children of their own!

Make sure you give the parent a good price for the number of children they have!! If you over charge parents may refuse to let you babysit!

Before you start babysitting, you may consider taking the Red Cross's babysitting class.  This will certify you for CPR and other first aid information.  

Think about volunteering with a church or a school.  Tutor elementary students and see if you truly want to be a teacher.  You could also become a mentor to a school age child.  All of these would help you create a resume and network with people.
