  1. be up and doing.

    you need strong determination

    And radio sensitive gagets.

  2. An idea,

    A bit of mechancial aptitude,

...and some knowledge of how to connect motors and sensors to a serial port or parallel port...

...and a knack for programming computers (or microcontrollers)

If you are or were an average junior high student, the following book would be beneficial, although would probably need some adaptation for your particular computer's parallel port.  It guides you through building a robot out of balsa wood, and building a circuit to connect computer to motors, sensors, etc.

  3. ok well, i would start off with a kit like the boe-bot from parallax, or the vex-robotics you can find those at radio shack. if you want to build one from scratch i would try http://www.robotcombat.com/store.html.

another good hobby is RC car building it is what i did b4 i got into robotics it is really fun also.

you are looking at a price of about 200 dollars min. what i did when i got into robotics is i made a club and had the school charge it. i was given 1,000+ for materials.

what i would really look at is just patience u will run into problems on the way thought but don't give up. just sit down with a pen and a piece of paper and doddle until it u find something.

  4. First you define what you want your robot to do.

Next you figure out how you want your robot to do it.

Then you start listing all of the elements (motors, mechanical 'stuff', sensors, required processing power, etc.) and figure out how you're going to package all of it.

Then you start doing all of the detailed design.  That includes mechanical drawings for all of the mechanical parts, schematic drawings for all of the circuitry, wiring drawings for all of the connections between the various major assemblies, etc.

Then you go back and double check that everything 'fits' mechanically (and electrically) and that it will do what you wanted it to do (which you listed to begine with).

Then you go out and buy (or find in a junkyard) all of the parts and pieces you need and build it.

Then you start writing software to drive it and make everything work.

    HTH,

    Doug

  5. well an aluminum sheet to build the exterior..well depends what your building but yeah you need sensors and a weapon!@!! lol
