I have been wanting to start my own garden for years, and now is the time. I rent and am not planning on living here a whole lot more, so I must do this inside or in pots on the deck.

Since I have no gardening exp at all and I have no idea how to start, I am stuck. Hoping I can get as much advice as possiable about the things I want to grow (tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, onion and corn) I think I will at least grow the corn in the grow, I know that much.

I would also like to grow strawberries, blue berries and that kind of stuff.

I am not sure what type of soil or what type pots to buy or even if i should start with seeds or plants. When do I start planting? Please anyone with advice help me.

  2. This all depends where you are.  I'm in the northeast and I start my seeds indoors in March (about 6 weeks before the last frost) and my plants go outside in late april.  We really need to know your growing zone before giving you an informative answer.

  3. It'd be great if you had the convenience of open space like a veranda. It's very difficult to grow plants inside considering that  there are furnaces, heaters, lack of sunlight, and ventilation. Vegetables require a great deal of water and natural sunlight; it'd be best if your home was situated by open space. Indoor plants usually fail, though I do see people who use their fire-escapes to grow their vegetables but I wouldn't recommend it. Anyway, vegetables are seasonal so you should research the type of fruit or vegetable that you'd like to grow beforehand. Also, good luck with your water bills!

  4. It's quite late to start plants, so buy plants that already have flowers or fruit (can be vegies, just what you call it is fruit, if you can find them).  Tomatoes and cucumbers are good because they vine & can grow up.  Leaf lettuce grows quickly.  Vining beans (like green beans), and peppers (all kinds) are also good plants to grow in pots.  You'll need to water and feed them according to growing directions (Miracle Grow).  Strawberries are great in strawberry pots, but you have to wait two years for fruit.

Definitely use the deck.  They will all need full sun.

    Good luck!
