How do I start learning guitar?

k over the summer i'm making a goal to learn to play the guitar. i don't want to just learn tabs and play songs. i mean thats cool if i can just play some, but i really want to know how to play it and read music. like you would read music playing the trumpet or clarinet or anything.

i already have a good tab site, but are there any books or sites i can go on that will teach me notes and stuff.....

i had played trumpet in my elementary and 2 years in middle school but i quit cause it just wasnt right for me. so i do have some knowledge of music and music theory. im in the 8th grade.

Well if you have money, the best way to learn is through a tutor. If you can't afford one. I recommend buying Essential Elements Book 1. It will teach you how to play chords as well as regular notes. After finishing this book pick up the next edition.
