Question:

How do I start lilies from seed?

My friend has orange lilies, the type that are shown on this page:

Her lilies have little black seeds all along the stem. I want to know if it's possible to start growing those seeds...when to do it...how to do it.

  1. Starting from seeds is difficult most of the time.  If your friends are established, you can divide bulbs from the existing plants, or like the other poster said, they’re fairly cheap in most places.


  2. It is a great time to purchase bulbs now to plant in the fall.  I actually was able to buy 12 bulbs at a nursery for .50.  Shop around at your local do it yourself places (ie, Menards, Home Depot) or local nursery's.  Now is the time to buy for Fall planting ;-)
