  1. My sister ran a day care out of her home for years.  Every city is different about their requirements, but in hers she had to apply for a license, have an initial inspection, pass a red cross safety class (CPR and basic first aid) and pay a fee to maintain the license yearly.  Her city also did non-announced inspections occasionally as well mainly focusing on health and safety issues.

  2. Eskie Lover is right.  My aunt has a home-based daycare that she has ran for years.  It all depends on the city and state you live in.  My aunt lives in California, and there, they have strict guidelines about the adult-child ratio.

Head down to your local City Hall and gather up as much info as you can.  Also hit up www.score.org  That site has helped me tons in trying to start my own home business.  Best of luck!
