of contests. What's the best way to play? They have lotto, powerball, scratch off, Gopher 5, Northstar cash. I have heard that certain gas stations and grocery stores have more winners than others. Is this true?

Any advice would be appreciated.

  1. simple, go for the prettiest one as they are all the same.

  2. Say this,

"Give me a One dollar powerball"

  3. I don't know about certain places having higher odds but I know that the higher the jackpot is the smaller the chance of winning is.  I've won 2 out of the 4 small lotteries I've done, and none of the 5 big ones.  The 2 small ones weren't worth much, $3 and $10 but at $1 each I'm still positive

  4. The best thing to do is save your money; your odds of coming out ahead on the lottery are slim.

If you must, then check out the odds on the state website and lean toward games with the best overall odds, the odds of breaking even or better.

Minnesota's best overall odds seem to be about 1 in 4. (25% chance of winning any prize.)  That's for some of the instant-win games which have lower top prizes.  If you fall for the big-jackpot games, your odds are much worse.

Don't worry about which stores have more winners; in a fair game, your odds will be the same at any store.
