  1. LETS SEE IF I CAN HELP YOU KILL 2 BIRDS WITH ONE STONE,,.,,FIRST SEE ABOUT BUYING YOUR FOOD AT SAM'S CLUB OR COSTCO= TO GET MORE FOR LESS, THEN ONLY BUY FOOD THATS IN PLASTIC BAGS OR ALUMINUM CANS. ALOT OF FOODS ARE FULLY COOKED. WHICH MEANS YOU ONLY HEAT UP, LIKE LUNCHES AND SNACKS. I LIKE TO BAKE CHICKEN FROM SCRATCH AND ONLY USE  CHICKEN, BUTTER, WATER AND FLOUR,  USED EXCESS FLOUR PUT IN A PLASTIC SEALANT BAG, EXCESS BUTTER IN A HALF GALLON MILK CARTON. IT TAKES ME ABOUT 6 MONTHS TO FILL BOTH, I DONT EAT CHICKEN EVERY DAY. BUT BY BUYING FROZEN IN PLASTIC, LESS WASTE ON GARBAGE= ALUMINUM CAN BE SOLD FOR RECYCLING. THIS WILL HELP YOU FOR A START. AS IS MY ONLY GARBAGE THAT GOES OUT ONCE EVERY 3 MONTHS, MY POWER $60. MO.=WATER $56 FOR 2 MO.

  2. start a compost bin. take chichen wire and make a tube with it. then you can put shreded paper in it, food scraps, and yard wast.

  3. Go local and reuse the same bags.

  4. Look at the packaging everything comes in.  Fresh veggies?  No packaging, nothing to throw away, just trimmings to compost.  Canned veggies?  Metal can; recyclable, but metal mining is horrific to the environment.  Frozen veggies?  Taste better than canned, but can that plastic bag be recycled?  See where I'm going?  Think about everything you buy and what will happen to it after you've used it.  Take your own bags to the grocery store.  Use re-chargable batteries.  Cut back on how much you use of things like dish soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, etc. (most of the time we can get away very well with using less).  It takes time to develop the habit of just looking at everything you buy or use and thinking about what alternatives there are.  Stuff you printed up but no longer use?  Scrap paper for the next grocery or to-do list.  Hang laundry on a line.  Use dirty dishwater on your garden (plants love it and it helps repel bugs).  And so on!  Have fun being creative with it.
