How do I stick an Nvidia 8500GT in my PC?

I've just got an Nvidia 8500GT for my Acer Aspire M1610 pc. It has a SIS Mirage 3 (which is c**p) built in. From what I can remember this pc has a space PCI Express slot, which I can use to stick the new card in.

Will I have to take out the old one or can I just put in the new one without taking it out?

  1. Well the first thing to know is that there are outputs on the video card, and they will have to fit in the back panel - so that will help you reduce the number of places that you're looking to stick it in!

You probably have around four rectangular panels on the back which have been snapped out (one for a modem connection for example) and another one which is not snapped out, and which - if you stick the back end of your video card in place - will put the long connector right up against a slot in your motherboard.

Just remember - shutdown first, and take the power out to be extra safe. If you don't have a spare slot, then you must take out the old one - I don't think you can fit two separate video cards from different manufacturers, or different models from the same one.

If you want to see your Nvidia fly, then try it out with a nice 3D non-linear style gnome Ubuntu desktop - it'll make you go WOW!

  2. well just put in the card asuming there aint any other card in there your the graphics ure prob using are onboard so yea rubbish graphics just put in the new card and make sure you powersupply is poweful enough to handle it it prob will but make sure its something like 350w or 400w btw if u want a card for gaming avoid the 8500gt and go for the 8600gt u wont belive the amount of extra peformance u get the 8500gt is a very slow 8 series card a 8600gt or 8600gts are good gaming card ignore what everyone else says thery aint rubbish trust me i had one gaming for a 22inch and it handled it brill on games like world in conflict

  3. take the old one out if you don't there could be hardware issues just open the pc case take out the old card and put the new card in the respective pci slot if its pci express put it in that if its pci express 2.0 put it in the pci express 2.0 slot its so simple your grandmother could do it check the box of the video card or the specs of it online and see which slot you need to have and then put it in that one then install the drivers and your set to go
