How do I stop making everything move around when positioning objects on Microsoft word (Vista)??

Basically, everything keeps moving around when I position other objects close to or on top of other items.

I am making a magazine cover and I have been layering many different objects but now some just start to move out of position and wont be re-positioned due to where the new object is. Is there a setting I can apply to these moving shapes to stop them moving, I clicked 'tight' on the shape format button but other layers move out of position then, Please help asap !!

Kind regards, Benham

  1. You need to anchor the objects.  If you press the Show/Hide button on the Standard toolbar (looks like a back to front P).  Now when you click on an object you should see a little anchor.  The anchor can be moved if required.

Position a drawing object in relation to page, text, or other anchor

Select the object you want to position.

On the Format menu, click the command for the type of object you selected — for example, AutoShape or Picture, click the Layout tab, and then click Advanced.

In the Advanced Layout dialog box, click the Picture Position tab, and then select the options you want for your horizontal and vertical anchors — for example, margin, page, and paragraph. You can align the object relative to the anchor, or you can enter a precise numeric position for the object relative to the anchor.

Tip   You can attach an object to a paragraph so that they move together in two ways:

To ensure that the selected object moves up or down with the paragraph it's anchored to, select the Move object with text check box.

To ensure that an object remains anchored to the same paragraph when you move the object, select the Lock anchor check box.
