I want to let my dogs hair grow but can't stop the matting. He is a poodle cross shitsu. I don't want to clip him if I don't have to. Is there something I can use to soften his hair to make brushing easier? Cheers Carol

  1. brush it everyday

  2. carallan1, I like the personality of a poodle. They are so sweet.

  3. Before he gets matted brush him out really well. You may have to brush him twice a day to keep the coat from matting.

Use a dog conditioner on him when you bath him.

Also they do have dog detangling sprays you can use.

  4. When you think you have done a good job brushing your pet out take a comb and go threw it's hair to check for matts and also if you bath the pet with matts that just makes them worse. start and the end of the matt with a comb and work your way into the matt till you have it out. and when brushing go up on the legs and towards the head on the body, this has to be done 3 times a week if not daily to prevent matts

  5. Brush her out every day.  Don't bathe her if she is matted.  Use can spray a little creme rinse and water (1TBS)/pint on her to help make the hair slick and reduce static electricity.  Ask your groomer to show you how to line brush using a slicker brush so that you get all the mats and dead hair out.

  6. I have a Min poodle and a poodle cross I use baby shampoo ( the anti tangler kind ) it work great for easy brushing and keeps the fur soft.

  7. They make special shampoos and sprays just like they do for humans. I've never tried them... but here:

Daily brushing and clipping of tangles you can't get out make it easier too.

  8. Brush every day to avoid mats and ashampooing apply conditioner to the coat.

  9. Do what all the other answers said (I don't have enough time to type all that) after you clip its hair. There is no way to get rid of it once there already is a mat unless you clip it. Would you rather have the pleasure of seeing your dog with long hair, but your dog be in pain because of the mats, or would you rather just clip it and let it grow back out and your dog be happy and not in pain? Your choice.
