  1. Go to your membership profile on the particular yahoo-group and change it from "individual messages" to "no email" and it will stop all messages from your groups without unsubscribing you from them.

If the particular group in question "requires" its members to at least receive SOME messages from the group - change it to "special notices" ...or send an email to the moderator of the group telling them that you need to put all messages on hold for a particular amount of time when you change your settings.  (That way they won't change your settings back)

  2. Change your preferences from "individual mail" to "no mail" fro each group your are a member of from the homepage of the groups.

  3. log onto group- top middle click edit membership- scroll down to Step 2. Message Delivery and sellect no mail. click save changes. sometimes it takes server updating to reflect this change (it's been pretty good lately)

after one week + follow same steps to reset mail settings

  4. you can change your status on the group to "no emails", that should work.

But... if you're concerned that your inbox will get overloaded, Yahoo has followed the trend and made the inboxes huge... don't remember if its 100MB or 1 GB, but its enough to not let you worry about overloading.

  5. send mail to

    groupname-nomail@yahoogroups.com

and after week send mail at

    groupname-normal@yahoogroups.com
