How do I stop my babies relux formula getting stuck in his bottle teat?

My 6 week old has reflux and is also fairly windy. The newborn teats dont seem to allow the thickened formula through and he is drinking 20mls and then going to sleep becuase he is tired. When i make it up, the formula can also be fairly clumpy, no matter how much i stir it. I also used a flour sieve to try to stop it from lumping up... Any suggestions would be welcome

  1. A good friend of mine had a baby with bad reflux and she had to put thickener in the formula, she made the hole in the end of the teat bigger so it would flow through easier and she used to stop a couple of times during the feed to swirl the formula around to keep it mixed. But when her baby was younger, because she was a slow eater, she used to make it up in small amounts, so 20mls and once she finished she'd make another one up, cause the thickener would keep thickening in the formula and get very hard to get out.

Hope this helps and i do hope your bubs doesn't suffer for to much longer!

    good luck

  2. Ask your pediatrician or pharmacist.  I wouldn't encourage making the hole larger because he could get too much and choke.

My daughter had reflux and we had to spoon feed the medicine to her.  It was powdered 15 mg Prevacid.  Horribly Horribly sweet stuff took forever to give it to her.  Complained to the doctor and he gave her 15 mg capsules said to open the capsule and sprinkle on 1 baby spoon of baby applesauce and give it that way.  So much easier.   So I'd speak to the doctor about it being too clumpy and ask what you should do different or if there's something else you can try.

  3. my daughter had reflux when she was young also, they reccommened getting a faster flowing teat until you stopped the reflux formula. also try making up pre prepared bottles, like hot water, mixing the formlar in straight away then letting it cool before your baby drinks.

    good luck =]

  4. get a faster flowing teet
