  1. If the food bowl is higher than his/her perch then all you need to do is make the perch higher than the food bowol.  If he still sits there then there isn't much else that you can do.

  2. You may be able to discourage him from sleeping there by making it uncomfortable to sleep there...  maybe put it closer to the wall of the cage so he can't really sit with his butt over the bowl?  It seems like if you put it in the corner he couldn't sit on it that way comfortably....  Otherwise, it's safe to just scoop the p**p off of the top of the food and feed him what's underneath.  It would take a lot of p**p to make him sick, but of course he should be able to have clean food :)

  3. get food dishes with covers on them.  also use those dishes for water too.  If he poops, it'll land on the covers instead of on the food, or might discourage him from sleeping on it.

  4. Place the food dish near the bottom of the cage, or place a perch higher in the cage than the food dish.  Birds usually sleep on the highest perch.

Of course you will have to make sure the food dish isn't below where he sleeps.

However, I never heard of a bird that wouldn't p**p in food, and I haven't heard of one getting sick from it.  Still, we try to avoid it.

  5. Mine does that too. All I know is its a very common thing for cockatiels to p**p in their food.

You could try and take the food from the bowl where he sleeps and move it into another part of the cage in a new bowl.

There are also special beds for cockatiels that you can try.
