I am using 1x10000K, 1x20000K and 1x Blue Actinic T5 lighting globes (24W each) over my newish aquarium and my rock appears to be "burning" where directly in the lighting.

WTF?

HELP?

  1. apple

  2. If you could post a picture, that would be helpful. The rock itself is minerals, which do not "burn."

If the color is turning whitish, then it's probably algae either dying off, or starting to spread across the rock. There are a few less-common strains of coralline algae that are white, but it's rare to have such algae growing in a "newish" tank.

If the water is overheating locally, something may be dying because of the heat. In this case, try to find a way to move the lights away from the water a bit. I've seen stands that hold the lights above the top of the tank at some fish stores and online. Those might be the best (and cheapest) approach.

  3. wow man some powerful stuff how deep is your tank your rocks are possibly too close to the source or its there own way of reacting, think of it like this, if i put a T5 in your face what would you do? close your eyes right?

    hope this helps
