Question:

How do I stop my teeth hurting with braces?

I've had my braces for six days and they hurt as much as the second day I got them. I've been eating soft foods and anything harder than bread is tons of pain. Is this normal? How long can this continue before I should be concerned? And how do I stop it? It seems I can only eat ice cream, pudding, and soup and I don't really like any of those things. Any suggestions for coping with braces in general?

  1. I have braces, it is normal. What you should do is take Advil or Ibuprofen. It will relieve the pain. The pain from first getting braces lasts up to a couple weeks, but then you get used to them. I know what it's like, just stick with it, and cut up your food in little teeny pieces.

  2. Unfortunately you will just need to take some aspirin and may drink warm tea.  It will get better but every time they tighten up the braces this will happen although not as bad.  Look at this way, a little pain now and those lovely teeth later.  Makes you want to chew a dog bone doesn't it?  I can still feel it.  Good luck honey!

  3. CALL THE DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY YOU COULD HAVE A SERIOUS MEDICAL CONDITION.

  4. You can take pain killers.

  5. Take a pain killer.  Something like Advil or Tylenol.  Rub your teeth with Anbuseol.

  6. the exact same thing for me but after like the 5th day it got a bit better each day take pain killers like advil i ate yogurt and mashed potatoes for 2 weeks and i had to take that to school embarassing just keep eating soft things theres not much u can do just distract ureself from it hang out with friends  watch some movies etc and by the way i was in so muh pain i wasnt even hungry for that week but my frends helped alot dont eat or drink things too hot or too cold because ure teeth are extra sensitive  good luck it will get better

  7. "It seems I can only eat ice cream, pudding, and soup..."

When you first get braces or get them tightened it is completely normal to feel that way. After a week or so then you can go back to eating solid food.

  8. i had braces about a year ago and if you mean like the inside of your mouth hurting then put wax on the outside of your braces it REALLLLY helps! also when you get like scratches inside your mouth from them gargle warm salt water it's disgusting if you swallow it but it heals fast if you do it. and as the other person said use Tylenol or something like that. Also, try chewing "extra" gum like the sugar free gum it strengthens your teeth

  9. It DOES hurt like heck at first until your mouth 'toughens' up.  However, if you're having specific areas that keep hurting, go see them...could be that you need an adjustment to keep something from rubbing that shouldn't be.

You poor thing, I wouldn't want to go through that again for anything!

But it will be well worth it when they're all done.

And the pain will subside in a few weeks.

I'd go back in and tell them that they're REALLY hurting so they can check on them.
