Whenever a thought comes up, I ask myself why, how, what, etc. How do I gain back control over not giving so much energy into thoughts?

  1. Mac Mac said what I would. So just in case you skipped over his/her comment as insignificant, go read it again...

  2. When you catch yourself compulsively thinking as you describe you have to stop and take steps to change the subject and relax your mind. Try listening to some soft soothing music like Mantovani's Claire de Lune, Pachelbels Canon in D, Ave Maria etc. to get your mind off the compulsion. You may have some OCD for which a doctor should be consulted.

  3. It sounds like this has become a habit.

Try to keep yourself in the present moment.  Bring your attention back to what you are doing at the time.  If you are washing dishes, wash the dishes.  You must get exhausted from the analyzing and the constant thinking that is going on.  Try to rest your mind.  Shut your eyes and take a slow, deep breath.  Good Luck.

  4. you could get Alzheimer's, that will help you to stop thinking altogether.

until then, stop stewing in your own juices. you are beating yourself up for no reason. if your mind is racing at a hundred miles an hour, that is a good thing.
