Question:

How do I stop/prevent my ankles from severely rolling in?

I severely roll my ankles inwards. It is starting to hurt whenever I walk for long amounts of time, or play sports (I play netball.) I have tried correcting it myself, but it takes a lot of concentration, and it gets quite uncomfortable. I have hurt my ankles quite a lot (so far, all injuries have been minor,) due to the amount of jumping I do when playing sports. Is there a way to stop my ankles from doing this? Should I wear ankle supports? If so, can you recommend a brand of ankle supports that have worked for you?

  1. orthotics or inner soles that are built up will help you greatly ------

be advised by your GP or pediotrist!

  2. I come from a family where this is hereditary. My mother opted to have my brother and I both surgically corrected. My brother was far worse than I was, with his feet having to be completely broke apart, pinned back together, and spacers put in to keep the ankles in the correct position. Mine was fairly easy off with just spacers in both ankles. For the most part this works, but you do have the minor irritation of foreign objects being in your body. I also had a nerve pinched in the process in one of my ankles, this was fixed with a simple shot of cortisone. Only a podiatrist can say what is your best option. At times I wish I would of had custom made orthotics, but these can be priced upwards of $200 a piece and most insurance companies do not cover them. I would definitely go see a podiatrist.
