Question:

How do I stop siphoning through my air tubes.?

Okay I have a 2 way gang valve, one line goes to the air stone, the other line goes to another bubble thing. I unplugged the air pump (like I normally do), because it's too noisy for me to sleep through at night (the tank is in my room.) I didn't think it'd do anything because I always do this on my other tanks and nothings gone wrong. Well in the morning there were like 3-4 gallons drained out of it and the carpet was sort of soaked (I had to tie knots in the line to get it to stop). I know that my dad uses the hose and does the same thing when he wants to drain our hottub, but why did this only happen to me only this particular time? How can I keep it from happening again?

  1. A check valve would prevent this from happening again. They cost about $2. It fits in the airline between the pump and the tank and stops water from being siphoned out. Also, you need a new air pump because the old one was almost certainly destroyed.

  2. go to petstore and buy whats called checkvalves for airline tubing   they are dirt cheap  1.00 or so

  3. the tube fills with water since the air stopped, causing a siphon effect,

you need to keep the end of the hose higher than the water level, that should stop the water from flowing out of the tank.
