How do I stop woodlice invading my house?

I don't have a damp problem, but often we have lots of woodlice in the house. I put down insect killer which works for a short while, but what do I need to do in order to solve this problem once and for all?

  1. You can buy sonic devices that plug in and emit signal that puts insects off being in that area, look here http://www.ppcsupplies.co.uk/electronic

    Good luck

  2. Woodlice are land-living crustaceans that feed on decaying matter. Does your house have wooden floorboards on the ground floor? If yes, this may be the source of the problem. Even if the damp course is working fine, it still may be damp under your house. It's possible that the ventilation bricks are blocked up and need to be unblocked. These bricks are perforated with many holes to allow air to move freely and they're placed below the damp course on wooden floored buildings.

  3. Ignore them, they're utterly harmless.

As for insect killer, it's worth noting that woodlice are not insects - they're crustaceans (same as shrimp, crab, etc).

EDIT: oh, yeah, in support of bloke above's suggestion of the plug-in thing - a mate of mine has one, as his son is morbidly terrified of spiders (which are *still* not insects, but who's quibbling?). He claims it works very well.

  4. as mentioned make sure gaps under the doors are fixed... had a customer who had them terribly and they were found in the rotting wood of an expansion joint where the house slab and driveway met.  Any general insecticide will take care of them, but you need to treat the areas of harborage  to get rid of the mass numbers.
