  1. a system restore (if that's really what you mean) doesn't delete any personal files, it only rolls windows back to a previous time.  personal files will go unaffected though...

  2. A system restore shouldn't erase any of your music, videos or pictures but I'm always a bit wary. I have a website and the system restore somehow managed to bring back older versions of pages I'd edited. And they weren't in my personal My Documents folder but in a folder on the root of the C: drive. So you're right to want to back up everything.

If your PC has a CD or DVD burner on it, you will probably have burning software with it (e.g. Nero, Sonic, Roxio). In that case, put a blank CD or DVD into the driver and get the software to burn a Data Disc. If you don't have software on it, download CDBurnerXP from http://cdburnerxp.se/download.php.

Alternatively, if you have an mp3 player with lots of space, you could copy the files onto that. If you have a lot of files that you wouldn't like to lose, you should think about buying an external hard drive. They've become a lot cheaper in recent times. Maybe you have a friend who can loan you one til you do the system restore.

  3. an mp3 or mp4 player are great for this type of thing just plug it in via USB and open the mp3/mp4 in my computer then drag and drop your files onto the mp3/mp4 players memery

  4. depends on how much space you are planning on taking up with your music, videos, and pictures. if u have more than say 10GB it would be wise to buy a portable hard drive or an external hard drive, i have a lot of music, videos, and pictures (approx. 45GB) and i bought a 320GB external hard drive, i know it might seem like a lot of space, but i download a lot of music and videos so i know eventually i'll fill it up, but not anytime soon so i don't have to worry now about space running out

  5. Put a blank DVD in your disk drive, right clik on the folder you want to save to disk, and clik ' send' and select E: drive/ DVD drive
