Question:

How do I strengthen a plasterboard wall (with timber/plywood/mdf) by cutting and resealing like new?

I want to reinforce a plasterboard wall by cutting out approx 30x40cm section with jab saw, apply a piece of timber in the cavity between the plaster and the mdf wall (in approx 2 inches of void). I then want to put the plasterboard section back on and reseal, preferably like new.

There is one stud (metal) going down the centre of where I'll apply the timber (so two pieces of timber either side will be best). The stud is too week too take load alone.

Firstly, how do I apply the timber to the mdf wall? And do I attach it to the stud at the same time and if so how?

Secondly, how do I re-apply the plasterboard section and what materials and tools do I need for a good finish?

FYI - I'm doing this so I can hang my LCD TV. Step by step instructions will be great.

Thanks.
