It is 61" and 45 lb pull. I have nylon string here. How long should it be, and what knot should I use?

  1. Well you shouldn't be using a knot at all.  You will need a real bow string for a real bow.  There are a few concerns regarding using a nylon string for bows, one is its creep, you need material that doesn't stretch for bow string, or doesn't stretch much.  Nylon is not one of them.

Number two concern is its weight, I don't know how thick this nylon you're trying to use or how it's made (twisted vs braided).  But regular bowstring are made of straight strands of either dacron or other synthetic material that is run a few times the length of the bow with no knots in it.  Knots weaken the line and bow strings receive a lot of punishment from being shot, any knot on the line will tend to cut it.

You can usually get a good bow string for about $10.  Try www.3riversarchery.com, www.lancasterarchery.com, or even gander mountain.  If you're unsure of the type of material your bow can use, get a dacron string to be safe.  Some material like fast flight, 8125, dyneema, majesty will shred your limb tips to pieces if they're not reinforced.
