How do I study abroad?

I'm in high school and I've always wanted to study in Japan. I just don't know how to start. Here are the questions i need answered: How much money would someone need for a year to study in a high school? How do i get into this exchange program? How good do I need to know the language in order to go? I fear it might be to late since I'm a junior, but my high school does not have Japanese language classes. Also, is the exchange available in college too?

I appreciate your answers

  2. Good. But just complete ur study and following up with ur teachers and elders and u will get some info time by time. And it is not atime==

  3. You still have time to go second semester this year or next year. But for this year, you'll have to apply soon.

First, pick your program. Make sure it's CSIET listed (www.csiet.ort). That will ensure at least SOME oversight. Also, check with your school counselor. Chances are, they have dealt with exchange programs and will be able to help you. At the top of your list should the premier programs YFU, AFS and Rotary.

They are expensive -- with your monthly needs, around $10,000 for a year. Rotary is much cheaper, but harder to get into and you'll need to start now for next year. YFU has some scholarships for Japan as well.

For Japan, language training is not required, but it does help. If you are accepted, I recommend you get Rosetta Stone (it's a computer program). Perhaps you can do it next semester as an independent study.

Exchange is also available through most universities, but those programs are all very different.

    Good luck!
