good diet include plenty of fresh fruit and veg, shower daily as it's good for their feathers. socialise your parrot with lots of different people and situations, try to take your parrot with you when you go out on a harness or in a carrier, ensure cage is cleaned regularly with an appropriate cleaner ensuring that feed and water bowls are clean daily. Use special perches for beak and feet trimming, wood branches to chew and peel the bark off.  Talk to your parrot daily and provide plenty of stimulation through games and toys. Ensure that you dont allow your parrot aubergenes, coffee, tea, chocolate and alchol they are lethal.  Locate an avian vet in your area to ensure correct treatment if required

The best general advice I can give is to purchase a book or books on what breed of parrot that you plan on having for the rest of your life.  I always find books for $5 or less on Ebay.

The best advice I can give is reserch, reserch, reserch!! Look at all the type available. Then pick by price rage diet required, temperment and lastly beauty. I have found some of the most wonderful pets are the ugliest..LOL. You also don't want to start out with a bird that is to big or too aggresive. Some breeds are more agressive as well sometimes gender plays a role. Good luck in your serch for a new friend.
