I am asking this question again in hopes that I get an answer to my question that is not just telling me to put it back. Please do not answer if you are not telling me what to feed it or what kind of tank and equipment I need.

I have a redear and an easter box, but have never had a snapping turtle. I found him yesterday. I don't know if he was trying to eat the cat or the other way around, but I took him in. Now what?

  1. Live food is best: earthworms, fishes (not goldfish), and soft-bodied insects. Mine gets a lot of liver. Dusted with bonemeal, that's almost a balanced diet by itself. When we have problems with mice and other rodents in the house, guess who gets to eat what we trap.

As a rule of thumb, you need 10 gallons of tank per inch of shell, cumulative. One of these days, I'll have a spare bathtub for mine because that's what he needs. We're planning on celebrating his 50th birthday next year.

  2. If you found it on land and it is a larger turtle you are interrupting a mother from laying her eggs. There is no turtle called an easter box. For a snapper you need a small pond full of fish. Replace the fish as needed. EDIT NEVER, NEVER, feed a turtle hamburger. It has TOO MUCH FAT and turtles can't digest beef fat. If you can't feed it fish, in an EMERGENCY a little LEAN chicken is OK. EDIT 2 There is NO such thing as an EASTER BOX TURTLE, your site is for an Eastern box turtle.

  3. you need a big tank, im not sure how big this turtle is yet, but the bigger the better. as far as food, you can feed them minnows, frogs etc.  thats what they usually eat, but you can also feed them balled up RAW hamburger. I would change the diet every so often or maybe it will prefer something over another. Maybe even want to try live minnows over dead.

what are you gonna name it. Snappy?

  4. I know you don't want the hear this but sweetie PUT HIM BACK if you don't he will die. If you refuse to release him then you better get him to a Vet asap. They will be able to tell you what to do with him.
