Question:

How do I take care of my injured toe?

I injured my toe today and I think the toenail might end up falling off. It ended up getting cut around the cuticle and there was a fair amount of blood. How should I take care of it? Should I put a band aid on it or let it air out? And should I put neosporin or something on it to help it heal? And also how long will it take for the nail to fall off it does?

Thanks in advance...

  1. Well if it is bleeding than yes you need to cover it how ever if it is not the most important thing is to keep it CLEAN AND DRY!  Going to see the doc would not hurt either.  You should also keep an eye out for any signs of infetion!

  2. I would suggest going to a pediotrist. Depending on where you live depends on who you have.

  3. You need to let it air dry out. Wash it with peroxide once a day. Keeping neosporin on it just keeps moisture in it, and will help harbor bacteria which will set up infection. If it is still bleeding, I would put a band-aid on it, but for the most part, let it air dry.

If the nail is going to fall off, it will fall off when it gets ready. It depends on the nail and when it is ready to fall off. My husband hurt his toe at work 4 months ago, and his nail is still slowly falling off. It is mostly gone now...
