How do I take regular fabric and give it an oil cloth treatment? what product do i use? what store sells it?

"oil cloth" than I am familiar with is embedded with plastic applied by passing cloth and plastic between heavy steel rollers.    

to make the old fashioned stuff, you start with a really tight weave fabric, canvas or linen and use linseed oil on it
