How do I take the paint off an airfix model?

I have small airfix model of a spitfire that I started to paint on the base colour. When it dried though the surface came out rough because something was wrong with the paint.

Is there a way to remove this first coat without removing detailing. I would use sandpaper but that would ruin the details and I'm hestitant about using solvents in case I melt the plastic.

Try a non-acetone nail polish remover.
