Question:

How do I tap my foot to the beat of my violin?

I just started playing, and my teacher tells me to tap my foot. (down on the number and up on the &) (for example 1(down) & (up) 2 (down) & (up) etc. etc. but, when i play the quarter notes which require the 1& not just the 1 part, i just keep my foot down instead of keeping it constantly going up and down, so whenever I try to play a song, every note becomes one tap, one then down, not each note recieving a specific number of counts. Is there anything i can do to fix this????

  1. You always have to play one the &'s I didn't really get you. I played violin for a year

  2. I don't think your teacher should tell you that, frankly.  Tapping your foot while playing the violn is counterproductive.

  3. Not every song is 4/4 time. Find out what the timing is.

Also, sometimes it isn't just as simple as one-two-three-four, it might be one-and-two-and-three-and-four-and etc.

  4. I didn't understand a word of that. Whatever your doing sounds very confusing. Looking at your previous question, it sounds that your current violin teacher isn't a very good one. Short tempered and hard to understand and comprehend. I strongly suggest you get a really good violin teacher who is patient, easy to understand and is empathetic.

  5. this one is tough

first u lift ur foot up

next u push ur foot on the ground

    (it makes a noise!)

  6. Well, u must practice foot tapping. Do it with your favorite songs. It's not easy for me. Then talk to a friend on the phone, just kidding. Go with the drums. Buy a audio meter machine. That works for me, hunny.

  7. Just like playing the piano requires the left hand and right hand to practice separately and then together, so goes for violin.  If tapping is a little difficult, try just your feet first.  It sounds stupid, but it really works.  If you listen to a recording of the specific piece while you tap and hear the combination of music that you aren't playing with your feet, it might help.  Some coordination problems are just something that you have to deal with, its just like patting your head and rubbing your stomach.  If you have a hard time, tell your teacher.  They can't yell at you for not being coordinated.

Good luck!  And keep tapping!  =)

  8. you could get a metronome or count slower and practice the notes that are faster. practice makes perfect.

  9. You should practice your foot taps by listening to music and tapping your feet in time to the beat. I know exactly what you're going through; I learned how to play the trumpet three years ago. Don't worry, I was terrible at first, but now I'm really good. It just all comes with practice. I used to have trouble with the foot tapping, too, but now I unconsciously move my foot to the beat whenever I listen to music.

  10. maybe tapping your foot isn't helpful to you.  try a metronome instead.

  11. follow the tempo

    for example

    one, two, three, four

    or

one two three, one two three, etc.

    its all about the tempo

gosh..i wish i could be more specific its been two years since i last played

  12. This is a great site that can take you through the steps.

    Good Luck
