spanking him just makes him hit more. How do I teach him hitting, kicking, pinching all hurt and are not the way to get what you want?

  1. My son hits, and i redirect him. I dont yell nor do i spank. Let him know that hands are for huging, show him how to be nice. I dont think kids learn from being spanked. they learn from being taught how to use thing correctly. Like hands for instance, are used for playing, petting animals, huggle, giving high fives, not hitting or slapping. Feet are for walking and kicking balls, not kicking people.

You have to redirect his play and reinforce the fact, that certain things are used to do certain tasks. Keep the reinforcement constant, or it wont work

  2. Spanking isn't really the best choice at his age, before their 2nd birthday children cannot really associate the pain from the spanking as a a punishment for the misbehavior.

Try timeouts, they will probably work better.  If he continues to do it after he turns 2, then try spanking him.

  3. It seems like spanking isn't the best option for him.  I would say when he does hit others out of anger or frustration, you get down to his level and tell him to use his words and tell him "Do not hurt others" and then send him to the corner for a couple minutes until he can calm down.

Do this consistently.  Some children don't respond to spanking well.  Just be sure to be consistent in what you decide to do.

  4. you make him sit in a naughty chair..
