Question:

How do I teach my 3 year old son to hold his pee while pooping?

My son has been peeing in the potty(standing up) for about a month now and in the past week he is finally going poopy, too. But whenever he strains to p**p he starts peeing and it shoots out all over the floor. How do I teach him to either wait until he's done pooping to pee or to point it down while he poops?

  1. Just teach him to hold his p***s down when he's on the toilet. You can't control those muscles and that will just cause issues if you try and make him. If he sits he has to point the bugger down - that's all there is to it.

  2. I would suggest buying a small potty seat that goes over the big potty-with a urine shield on it-that is what I use for my 2 year old son. It's really hard for the bladder and brain to decide whether to JUST poo or pee--good luck.

  3. Can YOU always hold your pee while pooping?  The other way around, yes, but...anyhow.  The way to go would have to be to teach him to hold it down.  At three, he should be able to understand that, especially if you take his hand and place it, than tell him to "hold it down like this".  Just remind him every time,  You may still have to clean up a few messes, but he will learn.

  4. well you dont need him to hold the pee while he is pooping. you should have a potty that has the boy pee guard on it so when they are sitting, their thinging points down into the potty and that is where the pee goes with out spraying all over.

  5. Just teach him to "tuck it" when he sits on the potty.

  6. That's why it's too confusing to teach little boys to stand up and pee!!!! He should sit to do all bathroom activities until he can control all of his bodily functions and perform them properly. At three years of age, it's just too confusing to have to stand up to do one thing, but sit down to do another.

  7. ? ...Why would you do that?

  8. Do NOT have him hold in his pee while pooping. That can cause problems. Just tell him this, "hold your p***s down when you p**p so the pee doesn't go flying everywhere."

  9. You cant, can you yourself keep from peeing when trying to p**p? I thought not, buy him a little potty seat that fits on the big potty or just buy a new potty chair with the little sprinkle guard on it, he will soon learn how to tuck it when he poos, but for now, he needs a sprinkle guard.

  10. TMI but even I sometimes pee during that!  I wouldn't try to teach him not to pee during p**p time.  He may get confused!  I would try just teaching him to "point" it down anytime he sits on the potty.  Then you won't have to worry about it.  It may take him a little while to learn it, so be prepared to get sprayed!

  11. you don't have to teach him to hold it. just have him tuck his "pee pee" down under the toilet seat, this will help to keep him from spraying if he pees. hope this helps.

  12. he shouldn't have to. get a p***s guard to put on the potty in front of him. when he's tall enough, teach him to stand up. have the daddy help with that  :]

  13. You don't teach him to hold it.  You teach him to tuck the little wee wee between his legs so he can pee in the toilette.  You will have to hold it down for him the 1st couple times so he can see and feel what just happened.  You need to show him how to hold it down going forward.  Explain what your doing.  We need to hold down your wee wee so you can pee pee while you boopy (or what ever you call it...LOL).... praise and encourage him that he is now a big boy and he's using the potty just like all the other big boys.
