I would like to know an easy method on how to teach my 5 year-old on how to tie her shoes. I was trying to find something with cartoon characters, but any educational video is needed right now. Please help me search the proper site. Thank you

  1. Try this one ....

  2. Make a cardboard shoe.

Get your child to help you decorate it.

    Make it FUN!

Choose a lace for it together.

    Learn the first tie,

Then when this has been achieved and rewarded, go to the loops etc.

Children will all learn things if they are fu.

Put the cardboard shoe hanging up somewhere so they can practise on there own without you to supervise.

  3. It will take time...try every morning

  4. I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S JUST ME OR NOT BUT I STILL CAN'T TIE MY SHOE

BUT I LIKE THE IDEA WIT A CARDBOARD SHOE AND SOME STRING COMING OUT OF IT SO THAT THEY COULD TIE IT.

  5. practice!http://www.ehow.com/how_5906_teach-child...

  6. SPONGEBOB!! There is an episode of spongebob completely dedicated to tying our shoes. CHILDREN LOVE SPONGEBOB. It is perfect.

You make a loopty loop and pull and our shes are looking cool..

thats one line n the song. really catchy tune. you can buy the song on i-tunes! or the whole episdoe.

  7. lol that 1 spongebob episode

but i just learned 2 do it on my own i think thats the best way 2 go not 2  pushed

    but thats only my opinion

  8. I agree...showing it over and over and over without losing your patience.  :-)

    Here is one little song.

    Criss Cross Tying Shoes

(Tune: Splish Splash I was taking a Bath)

Criss Cross and go under the bridge

Then you got to pull it tight.

Make a loop but keep a long tail

That is how to do it right

Then you take the other string

and you wrap it 'round the loop

    Pull it through the hole

    Now you got the scoop

Criss Cross and go under the bridge (this is where you tie the loops together)

Now you made a Double Knot!

I recently checked out the book called Teaching Montessori in the Home The Preschool Years and they have a "lesson" for tying shoes.

    1) Place the laces on the table in front of the child.  (If you use two contrasting colors of twill tape it will be easier for the child to see and understand what is being done.)

    2) The first day, simply let the child tie the first half knot.

    3) The second day, show him how to make a loop with one piece, then bring the second piece around the loop and through it.

    4) The third step is to demonstrate how to grasp one loop in the right hand and one in the left, then pull until your bow is made and secured.

    5) Proceed slowly with bow tying, making sure that the child is fully understanding the various steps.

The point is to not overwhelm the child...do one step at a time and practice until successful and then move to the next step.  The age on this skill is 4-5 years old.  Hope this helps!

  9. I like the cardboard shoe idea, but really, they just need to be shown over, and over, and yes, you guessed it, over again!

You can do the bunny ears (over, under and around the loops).  Being creative by referencing the bunny ears will help in teaching them a reference point.

Or, you can put a big jump rope on the ground and do it in "big" style..... they will learn what tying "looks" like, and when they do it with their little fingers, they will remember what the jump rope looked like.

And yes, it will take time, just like everything else a child learns..and like adults, we need to be shown something multiple times before we "get it".

    Good luck!
