  1. The best way to teach your grandmother technology is to make her a little handbook, or a few sheets of information which outline everything step-by-step. She can keep a little sheet in her pocketbook to help with her mobile phone, and another one next to her computer so she can check her e-mail, navigate the web, play Free Cell, etc.

It's often helpful to use the "Print Screen" key, and make images of everything so that she can see exactly where she needs to go and what she needs to do once she's there.

Once you've made the sheets, don't ostracize her -- explain that if she doesn't understand what to do, even with the instructions, then she can still give you a call. After a while, she'll memorize it and won't need to ask you many questions anymore.

  2. Your Grandma has learned to use you as a resource, so you are going to have to teach her to be more self reliant. Help her build confidence in using the technology by having her do whatever tasks, instead of doing it for her. Be supportive and patient with her and she will learn the skills and not need to rely on you for these tasks.
